The world renowned Alexander horns have been produced in Mainz since 1782, when Franz Ambros Alexander arrived and founded the company that still bears his name. This same company is today owned and run by his direct descendants and continues to produce top quality horns which are famous throughout the world.
In 2011, Alexander moved production to a spacious new site in the Mainz Hechtsheim industrial park. This new facility is a spacious modern environment for the whole production process, with separate rooms for polishing and lacquering, with a large showroom for testing the horns.
Over the years, the manufacturing process has changed and today the latest scientific research and technology is used in the manufacture of each horn. Alexander work closely with many leading musicians to closely monitor the quality and features of each instrument and to develop and improve them wherever possible.
Alexander horns are made from the highest quality materials which are selected from suppliers known to the company for many years. All models are available in yellow brass, gold brass, or nickel silver (by special order) and are delivered with a high gloss polish. This polish is protected by a high quality, durable lacquer, although unlacquered instruments can be ordered.
The valve sections are built with tapered valves which are precision built for reliability, long life and an air tight fit. They are generally fitted with a minibal action which is easy to maintain and very durable.
All of the cylindrical tubing in the valves has an internal diameter of 12.1mm and the tools used to bend these parts ensures that this is constant throughout.
Each instrument is assembled by hand under the watchful eye of a master craftsman. It is built to A443 and checked at every stage to ensure that it conforms to the standard expected by both the company, their network of dealers and players around the world.
