SECOND HAND HORNS: FEBRUARY
The following list of second hand horns is divided into catagories according to the standard of instrument, i.e. beginner/intermediate/professional. We have attempted to give a description of the condition of each horn. Lacquer wear is purely cosmetic and does not effect the tone quality of the horn. Full double and compensating horns of the same manufacturing quality are on a par - it is a misconception to think of compensators as inferior.

The prices shown are in pounds sterling. VAT is not normally applicable to second hand horns.

| Paxman Studenti F/Bb compensating horn. Yellow Brass, fixed bell and signs it used to be lacquered! An exciting example of the popular student compensator and in really good playing order. The lacquer still coats most of the horn with only the obvious scratches under the bell and in the flare of any note. |

| Single Bb Single horn in Bb. Yellow brass, detachable bell, lacquered. This is a Chinese built horn based on the European single horns. It's an extremely fine horn, great fun! But it has needed some re-soldering on most of the stays by the Paxman repairshop. A couple of dents in the bell and spots on the lacquer are just cosmetic issues |

| Kalison F/Bb full double horn. Fixed bell, yellow brass, lacquered, with case. A horn that is built to last, this instrument plays just as well as its competitors on the market, but is not as light to hold. |

| Alexander 90 Bb(A-+) single horn. Yellow brass, fixed bell, lacquered. This horn is in great condition, with just a few small dents and some lacquer wear in the bell. An excellent lightweight horn which plays beautifully across the range, but which is particularly free up at the top. It comes with a leather hand guard, adjustable finger hook and original crocodile skin case. |

| Paxman 33 F/Bb(A-+) compensating double horn. Yellow brass, Europa bore, detachable bell, brass rotors, Minibal action, lacquered. A very rare sight on the second hand market, this horn has been professionally owned from new and plays to that standard. It has had a duck's foot added. This instrument does not come with a case. |

| Conn 9D F/Bb full double horn. Yellow brass with silver slides, large bore, fixed bell, lacquered, with case. This horn has lost some lacquer from general wear and minor repair work, but otherwise it is in good condition. The 9D is originally a medium throat instrument but this horn has had a large throat relacement. |

| Holton 180 F/Bb full double horn. Yellow brass, large fixed bell. This horn is in superb condition and plays fantastically well. It has recently been fully re-conditioned and re-lacquered and really does look, feel and play like a brand new Holton. A really great horn. |

The Holton 181 features a distinctive gold bell and this horn also comes with a lyre box fitted. | Alexander 107 Bb/f-alto full double descant horn. Gold brass, detachable bell, lacquered. This horn has served many years in the profession and has had a few small adjustments made, including an additional tuning slide on the Bb side. It also has the adjustable leadpipe shank and is more suited to a player with large hands. |

| Paxman 81 F/Bb(A-+)/f-alto compensating triple horn. Yellow brass, detachable bell, lacquered, cord lever action and hollow rotors. Built in 1978 it has the older Paxman design. In excellent condition, this triple horn has everything. It plays very well throughout all three sides and the low F side plays so well you would think it had a full low F side. |

| Alexander 310 F/Bb/f-alto full triple horn. Gold brass with a detachable bell and lacquered. A really full sounding triple horn with the beauty of the Alexander sound. The low F horn is a real joy to play with the Bb and f-alto horns perfectly balanced. In really good condition barring a few small dings and dents here and there. |

| Boosey and Hawkes Sotone piston horn. This yellow brass piston horn looks in good condition and would certainly be a pleasant instrument to tootle around for fun with at home. Comes with two F crooks (one yellow brass and one silver-plated yellow brass which we found a little more resistant than the other) and a lightweight gig bag. |
