The Paxman Model 13,

is a professional Bb single horn with additional features. As well as the stopping valve customary to single Bb horns, the Model 13 also features a whole tone ascending valve which puts the horn into C. This gives the security of playing on a shorter horn in the higher register, but without the dramatic difference in tone that an f or eb-alto can produce. The design also allows for the ascending valve to only raise the pitch by a semitone, which can be more helpfull still in certain keys.

Whilst the majority of players will opt for a double horn setup for most of their repertoire, a single Bb can help provide that extra level of sound and tonal clarity that a double simply can’t achieve. The Model 13 does this without sacrificing the core of the sound that is so essential to all horn playing.
